Introducing Mia Fratino 'Art as Cashmere'

Winter 2019 has seen Mia Fratino team with female Australian artist Shannon Crees to design a unique and extravagantly colourful limited edition collection.

This MIA FRATINO capsule collection is inspired by a mural ‘BIRDS OF PARADISE’ painted and installed by artist Shannon Crees at the Gosford Children’s Hospital, painted in conjunction with children at the hospital.

Breaking boundaries:

The first time an original artwork of this scale has been rendered into a 100% Cashmere knitted jacquard design in the Australian market. Reinforcing MIA FRATINO’s commitment to pushing boundaries in cashmere design using state of the art knitwear technology.

In this collection, sections of this large scale artwork have been brought to life in the form of large colourful jacquard knits!

ARTIST COLLABORATION: Working with passionate & empowered women

MIA FRATINO is excited to strengthen its commitment working with empowered women demonstrating passion & integrity within their communities ~ launching this extraordinary Art Series Collection this week.

The commission was an initiative of the Regional Youth Support Services.

Inspired by a mural ‘BIRDS OF PARADISE’ painted and installed by artist Shannon Crees at the Gosford Children’s Hospital. Crees designed the layout and coordinated a group of children at the hospital to fill in the design with colour and pattern. The final result was a colourful and playful pastiche depicting Australian birds.

Crees is renowned for creating bright vibrant motifs which we have been further brought to life in incredibly soft, sustainable sourced and ethically made 100% Mongolian Cashmere for this collection.

MEET THE ARTIST: SHANNON CREES

Shannon Crees lives and works in Sydney, Australia. An accomplished international artist, she creates works on canvas and paints large scale murals both locally and internationally.

She was the only Australian artist included in the high profile line up of ‘the best graffiti artists in the world’ at ‘Banksy’s Cans Festival 2’ in London. Painted murals for Sheffield’s international mural festival in Tasmania and Outpost: ‘the southern hemispheres’ biggest Street art festival’ on Cocatoo Island. Was the winner of Leichhardt councils’ 'Wall to Wall' competition, with an 80 square meter mural. Her artworks have been displayed in the MCA for Australian Fashion week and in Sydney's town Hall. She has been a finalist in the Portia Geach, Salon des Refusés and Waringah art prizes. Her artworks on canvas are held in private collections around the world.
