If there’s one thing 2020 taught us, it’s that life can throw us the most unexpected of curveballs. 2021, on the other hand, has taught us nothing if not resilience and strength through the curveballs of 2020.

That’s not to say the following will focus on the coronavirus pandemic; we’ve seen enough of it in the media. The resulting lockdowns, though, have been an obstacle for all that have experienced them. As a small business, we have had to navigate this experience and have all learned different ways to cope so, here are a few of our favourite ways to help us stay positive and productive.

SOME THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
  1. Every single person is different and, as such, have other coping mechanisms. It’s not always a one size fits all approach, like some of our knitwear. Remind yourself of this anytime you try something new. It is a learning experience, if nothing else.
  2. These tips don’t just have to apply to a worldwide pandemic or lockdown. The information we’re sharing can help during anytime that feels more difficult than usual.
We asked around the Mia Fratino office (via zoom, of course!) what our team found worked from them while being confined to our home.

STAY CONNECTED

Communication is vital in all aspects of life, and having a support network can make all the difference on days when you’re feeling less productive. In addition, having an in-depth and meaningful conversation and a bit of comedic relief triggers oxytocin, which is the hormone associated most with social interactions. So, during a period where our physical & social interactions are few and far between, get talking! And if you’re usually a talker, talk more!

Staying connected also lets you make sure you’re on track for what you need or want to achieve.

DON'T BE SCARED TO TREAT YOURSELF

Seriously… retail therapy is a thing! It’s essential now more than ever to take time to enjoy the things that make us happy, and that includes purchasing new skincare or makeup or Mia Fratino knitwear...

Treating yourself doesn’t have to be a monetary transaction. For example, treat yourself to some alone time if you need space by going on a walk around the neighbourhood, doing yoga outside or meditating. Self-care is crucial when you find yourself out of routine and to boosting productivity.

TURN OFF DISTRACTING NOTIFICATIONS

While most of us have been working from home and need our email or call notifications, it can help to have unnecessary apps muted. Distracting news articles or social media reminders can impact productivity, and if they’re anything like the recent lockdown news updates, they can affect your mood. Turn these notifications off when you feel like you need to knuckle down and focus.

MOST OF ALL... DON'T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF

Forgive yourself on the days when it all feels a bit much. Be proud of yourself for all you have achieved during these unprecedented times and celebrate the small things. Instead of focusing on keeping yourself busy, focus on doing things that make you happy or the people that make you happy. You cannot pour from an empty cup, so looking after yourself should be front and centre.
